Note: Before I begin my argument, let it be heard that I am not against women’s rights, nor do I support discrimination based on gender in any way. Furthermore, I am not processing these…
Granted, there is still sexism and there are double standards for all genders. But your points are poor at best. I can never, from a humane and medical standpoint, compare male and female circumcision. Trying to make that conparison alone is ridicous. You are making broad and vague points that are terrible examples showing double standards, as there is rampant oppression of women to which male oppression in America, and around the world, does not hold a candle. Rape culture, blatant sexism, psychological control… yes, there are double standards. But worldwide? You don’t hear about boys going missing and treated as a subclass of people. In China, you are allowed to have a second child only on the grounds of your first child being malformed or female. Because they, we, are worth less than boys. Men aren’t made to hide their whole bodies or seen as impure simply for being female. Or, hey, let’s go back to America. The DSM V may have PMDD instituted as a mental disorder. Simply for having periods, I am now mentally ill!
I may have come off as terse in my last post, and for that I apologize. But female oppression everywhere tends to, to my knowledge, drastically outweigh that of males.
I understand your view, and much of what you say is true. The reprehensibility of the systematic misogyny taking place currently in the middle-east due to Islamic radicals. The ability to vote was just so recently given to women in the US, not to mention societal treatment of women throughout most of American history, you really can name countless forms of sexism towards women throughout most of history. Men have been viewed as superior in every way to women for centuries. I absolutely concede that point.
My only criticism of the current Feminist movement is that fighting for social change in the treatment of females seems to be a blatant disregard for sexism towards men. When Feminists preach for women’s rights, and woman’s equality, it insinuates that men are free of sexism, and that women should hold the same status.
Women endure, from what I’ve seen, more sexism than men do. But sexism is a two way street, and that is what needs to be eschewed entirely. Sexism is an unthoughtful bias that both genders face everyday. Feminism is fighting to end the sexist treatment toward women, but fighting against sexism as a whole, not only accomplishes more, but it has less of an alienating effect on men.
Thank you.
